Prince William and Kate Middleton “anxious” about taking the throne after King Charles’ cancer blow

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly feeling a wave of “intense anxiety” as they contemplate the possibility of ascending the throne as King and Queen of England, according to The Independent.

Royal expert and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown suggests that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may not be as eager to take on the responsibilities of monarchy as some may assume.

Following King Charles’ unexpected cancer diagnosis in January, Prince William has been compelled to take on more of his father’s duties. Kate, on the other hand, will assume a more active role once she has fully recovered.

While one might assume that William has been prepared for the role of King since birth, it seems the prospect is causing him some apprehension.

According to The Independent, Tina Brown stated, “News of Charles’s cancer has put William and Catherine in frightening proximity to ascending the throne… The prospect of it, I am told, is causing them intense anxiety.”

Charles only assumed the throne in 2022, making him the oldest heir apparent in British history to do so. However, in late January 2024, he announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer following a routine operation on an enlarged prostate.

Since then, the King has been shuttling between London and the royal estate of Sandringham, balancing his cancer treatment in the capital with periods of rest and recovery.

However, the news of his illness, and all that it entails, was somewhat overshadowed by the mysterious circumstances surrounding Kate Middleton after her “planned abdominal procedure” in January.

After almost three months of speculation and intense scrutiny, the Princess of Wales revealed that she too had been diagnosed with cancer, much to the surprise of royal fans worldwide.

In light of Charles and Kate’s health issues, Queen Camilla and Prince William have had to assume greater responsibilities within the royal family.

Reports suggest that this situation is taking its toll on Prince William, who understandably wants to prioritize caring for his wife. However, depending on Charles’ prognosis, William may find himself taking on an even more central role sooner rather than later.

As for Kate, she is expected to return to her royal duties when she is ready. Initially, Kensington Palace suggested that she would resume engagements after Easter. However, this was before her cancer diagnosis was made public.

Now, it seems Kate will be given all the time she needs to rest and recover fully. She certainly deserves it, as does Charles.
